1963 wheel paint question

At what stage were the 1963 steel wheels painted - either body colour or just gloss black - on the production line or off line and then added ?

Keith, If your car had blackwalls the wheels matched the color of the car. If it had whitewalls then the wheels were black. They could not have been painted on the line with the bodies because the cars were painted in Lacquer paint and the wheels are painted in enamel.

Thanks Joseph - so the colour of the wheels could have been a slightly different shade / not an exact match to the car.
