VERY common problem. The replacement springs, which are incorrectly sometimes referred to as "reproductions", MIGHT perform OK but they are usually not configured like the originals.
Your chances of finding NOS GM #3931823 springs is extremely remote. However, the chance might be slightly greater if you were to look for the GM replacement for 3931823 which was GM #331316. It was discontinued a long time ago but there might still be a few around. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

If it's just surface rust, no problem. If it's pitting type rust, big problem. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1972 350 without air coil springs
Perry,
I just went through the same thing with my 72 350 base (with air). I ended up going with replacement springs offered by Zip that claim to be an exact replication of the 3931823 spring. Although it looks similar with 10 coils and a 15 1/2 inch height, it has a spring rate of 430 pounds. That's close to twice the spring rate of the original 3931823 but also the lowest rating I could find in a replacement spring. The body has not been placed back on my chassis yet so I can't comment on the ride height. If it's too high I guess my only option will be to start cutting bits off the spring until satisfied. It's frustrating that even Eaton doesn't make a replacement spring that's even close to the original ratings.
Good luck, and I'd appreciate hearing what product you chose and how the ride height turned out.
