Broken Master Cylinder Stud C2 Std Brakes

Things were going well with new seat covers installed etc. until I started to replace the master cylinder. Removed nut on left side OK, but on the other side the stud broke behind the dash panel. The stud wobbles and I can't remove the nut.
Looks like a deep dive under the inst. panel etc.

    Any hints where to start?

Ken, can you just hold the round end of stud with a pair of needle nose vise grips? or can you possibly split the nut with a dremel with a small cutting wheel.

Thanks for the response. Yes I think I can do this, but but the stud is broken somewhere behind the panel and does not want to come out.
I think I need to replace the stud ore come up with a solution to bolt the MC back in place.

Ken the head of the stud I believe was spot welded. it must have broke away. once you have the nut off clean the thread and make sure the new nut threads on easily the use some JB weld to hold the stud on place, just don't go crazy tightening the nut down.

i'd remove the swing pedal assembly after cutting the once spot welded bolt. once the swing pedal assembly is out, you can spot weld any hex bolt of similar length. of course, removing the swing pedal assembly requires removal of the steering column and the dash cluster. those factory bolts spot welded to the swing pedal assembly are notorious for breaking the weld. mike

It turns out the stud was not broken but twisted free of its friction fit in the plate behind the firewall. The studs are not spot welded in place. Also on the 65 model the ends of the studs are visible inside the cockpit next to the steering column. A helper held the end of the stud with needle nose vice grip while I turned the nut off at the old master cylinder. We put a hex head bolt through the opening inside the car and held it tight with vice grip while I threaded a nut on the new bolt. New master cylinder in place!!
