    C2 Exhaust Heat Riser Valve

On my 1963 with 350/290 hp crate motor, the stud, pin or metal bracket that holds the spring on the exhaust heat riser valve has rotted away. Is there a way to replace this stud and the spring mechanism? Has anyone drilled the remnants of this stud out and put in a threaded stud? Is this more work than its worth?! The valve mechanism seems fine and opens and closes freely by hand.

    Thanks,
    Rob

I would use either a roll pin or a dowel pin. Stainless if available.

Unless your crate motors intake and carburetor configuration requires a heat riser I would just remove it and replace with a fuel injected engines heat riser eliminator spacer. The FI spacer looks like a heat riser valve but doesn't have the valve. You could also modify the existing riser by removing the valve. What type of choke does your carb have? Is it electric or mechanical? Bottom line ... you may not need a riser.

Thanks Russ and Nick. I think I will just eliminate the valve.
