1n 1980 when I began the restoration on my 1964 convertible I pulled the passenger's seat out and found a white, vintage 1960's bra clasp. I was seventeen at the time when I was starting the restoration. I said to my dad who was helping me "look and bra clasp!" He said how do you know what one looks like? I just smiled and kept on working.

I bought my car from the father of one of my best friends growing up. Growing up his dad was crazy into cars and they owned something like 10 cars despite growing up modestly in Levittown, NY. they owned a 31 Model A and a 37 Olds street rod, three 69 AMX's and my black 69 corvette coupe 350/350, among others. My friends and I were into street racing in those days (I still have my 69 FB mustang that I got at 17 yo) and my friend, kenny, was no exception. At the time we often spoke very disparagingly about corvette owners because most of them drove their cars, even back then, like museum pieces. His contention was always that these cars were race cars and should be driven as such. He raced that car, and every other car he had, constantly. He used to love revving it up to 5 grand and dumping the clutch just to put on a show. He hated losing and constantly sought ways to give him an edge. Although he never touched the motor he pulled the rear and put in a series 4 carrier and some 4.11 gears. He also upgraded the tranny with an aftermarket piece from Rockland standard gear. I remember he had an issue with the tranny that required he pull it out again and send it back to them. He had just received it that day and was planning to put it back in that night. At the time a bunch of my friends had put together a beer league softball team that he played on. He was playing catcher and there was a popup between home and the mound that he ran forward to catch and collided with the pitcher who was chasing the same popup. He was knocked out immediately and briefly regained consciousness then drifted out again. He sustained a major head injury and was in a coma for several months. He never recovered. He spent the next couple of years in a nursing home and then passed away. He was very close with his dad and the car sat in his driveway for the next 15 years under a car cover, still up on the car ramps he had put it on. About ten years ago I asked him if I could buy it and two of the AMXs from him. These three cars in particular were special to my friend. By this time I had moved to texas. I went back home to prepare the car for transport and when I pulled the car cover off and opened the door, the tools he had been using to work on the tranny were still in the car on the floor. There was a small piece of paper in the console with a short to-do list that he had written down of things that he had to do to finish the tranny job. I still have that piece of paper.
