Its the only article discussing the topic that I've come across...and the source isn't shown on the pages...

It says "Custom Corvettes" at the bottom of the left pages. It looks like maybe "Spotlite Book" on the right pages but I can't be sure. I think I have another article on this, I'll see if I can dig it up.

I've heard this was done to dozens of cars but find it hard to believe.

It was. Back in the day people were all about having the newest model car and it was a way to accomplish this between 63 and 64. Not to mention many people complained about the rear mirror visibility of the 63s.
