    Re: 72 Ignition Key

Here is an update, this info might be useful for someone looking for a 'C' code lock cylinder.

I located a NOS 'C' code cylinder from Jesser's for $175 , I thought that was a little steep. I found a Delco 'A' code cylinder for $22.00 that accepts my 'C' key. My locksmith re-keyed it to use my key, and it works perfectly. He thinks that 'A' code might be a 'universal' type cylinder (although it appears that 'A' code is only for 71,75 & 79). Of course, this might be a fluke, but this might save somebody with a similar issue some bucks.

He rebuilt my original cylinder, so I also have a back-up now.

Thanks to everyone for their thoughts.

Anthony - Some of the newer locks including ignition lock cylinders, door locks, spare tire locks, etc., do have "universal" keyways even though they come with a specific letter code key to operate them. This approach was probably part of an effort to reduce the number of different specific keyway locks that the parts departments needed to carry. Pete

          Anthony,

I own a universal keyway spare tire lock which will work with any of the 6'7 and new letter keys. Unfortunately, the lock will garner a deduct during judging if the judges test the lock with both keys. The same thing will happen with your ignition lock if the judges test it with both your primary and your secondary keys.

          Gary
