Asking prices of 57 vs. 58

Some of you may or may not have noticed what I am saying.

I spent the last month looking for driver quality 58-60 Corvettes in the 60k and under price range. With my preference being a 58 which has always been my favorite C1 even over the 57s.

I was shocked to find the asking prices of the 58s to be higher than the 57, 59 qnd 60s. Back when I owned my two 58s they were shunned as being "over chromed and having the fake louvers on the hood and were less expensive asking price wise. I personally love the hood and the trunk strips.

I finally had to buy the 57 I found as the deal was too good to pass up for the cars available at the time I was looking.

My point to all of this is where do the sellers get the idea that a 58 is more valuable than a 57 that has always been considered hobby wide a a milestone car????

To me a '57 has always been a one of a kind car with the fake air scoops and single headlights, not to mention the first year for fuel injection. But then again, my '57 is just a street rod. JMO

Asking prices may be about a seller's idea. But transaction prices are about supply and demand.

The market for '58s is small, so it's hard to conclude if the few cars you saw for sale represent a market trend or just a sample of optimistic asking prices.

With that said, values for the '58 Impala have increased more than the '57 Bel Air in recent years. Has this trend translated to Corvette? Maybe '50s kitsch and chrome is in vogue?

I have always had a preference for the '57, and not so much for the '58. Watch for many to come up for sale.

Always loved the 57 and not so much the 58. Never had a 57 but had one 58. Reason I bought it was because it was an original BLACK with red interior. How do I know it was originally BLACK. It told me so!

              I had a 58 in 1961 and that was the last 58 I had.
I have had 4 57's and prefer them due to the simple design and lines.
The 58 prices are sort of like the current infatuation with the 63 coupes.
Both years have one year designs but I don't agree with the stupid high prices being asked and paid for them.
              Just my opinion.
