    1966 Glove Box Door

I have an NOS glove box door. It came in a GM box with the blue and white label, so it is a later service replacement and has the wrinkling on the outer lip. I'm assuming I will take about a 2 point hit for this since the door assembly has 8 points total for originality.

I do need to repaint the back side of this door. Out of the box, the back of the door, the stamped steel part is painted black but it need to be repainted. The back of the face, the cast and chrome plated part, is not painted on the back side. Even the rivets are unpainted.

Should I mask off this area and only paint the stamped steel part, or just paint the entire back side of the door semi-gloss black?

    Don
Being it is not the correct door it should make no difference.
I suggest you look for an original door.
Plenty of doors at swap meets.
Assuming this is for flight judging that you ask.

Gene is right, there is one on eBay restored.

I would rather take the points hit for the NOS GM one I have now than spend $350 for a restored one. Besides that one on Ebay has a 67 tire pressure decal and the rivets do not look correct to me.

So I suspect the deduct for that $350 restored one would be more than the NOS service replacement that I have now.

I'd sell the NOS one and restore one yourself. It's easy to paint them, and not difficult to replace the aluminum insert without taking apart the door. You'll then have a restored original door that you did yourself.
