1967 Corvette Off Road Exhaust pipes/mufflers

Hi All, I need some support understanding what is assembly line, factory correct for a '67 L36 with off road exhaust.

I've heard conflicting information on whether pipes with bend marks are assembly line correct? Also which is correct? Mufflers with parts numbers embossed or mufflers with no part numbers just "Off Assembly" in ink?

    Thanks for your help!

    Regards,
    Dan

    Hi Dan,

The mufflers should only have an A on it with an ink stamp that says Off Road Assembly. If the muffler has a part number on it, that means it's a service item.

      Thanks Steve - much appreciated.

Do you have a lead on an assembly line system?

Dan, sorry I do not. That will be a tough find.

Dan, you can find good service replacements with the correct pipes and bends. To find a system as was installed on the production line would be very difficult. You'd have to find a donor system off of a car and that would be nearly impossible to find and purchase.

            Dan,

It looks like there are 2 NOS sets for sale on page 41 of the latest driveline. Not sure if they are real or what you want but thought it was worth mentioning. Good luck!

Your chances of finding SERVICEABLE system components correct in every nuance of detail is about as great as the chances of the people in hell getting icewater.

                  Dan,
Find a service set that has as many correct characteristics as possible, source correct/original guillotine clamps, prepare the pipes and mufflers with the blackout and capture all possible judging points you can....Save your efforts/time/money on other items that you can easily "correct" to maximize your efforts and car's level of correctness...Send your brother my best.....ARA

I purchased a set for my 65 in the mid 80's from GM in NJ through a friend. One came from GM warehouse in eastern PA; the other from warehouse in MI. And they arrived couple of months apart. My friend could search the GM warehouse stock to see if any available. As I recall then, these were some of last ones GM had made at some time frame and they were cleaning out old stock stuff. Should have bought few more sets but doubtful they were any. GM just slapped a shipping label on the pipe and sent them UPS.

Ha. I love it. My dad did a similar thing with heads for his '69 Z28 around that same time frame. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Chuck, it appears one of the sets is for a solid axel and the second set is from a dealer I will not do business with. I do appreciate the lead however. Very nice of you. Best, Dan
