67 Installing Instrument Cluster In Dash

When I did my last C2 restoration, more than 15 years ago I remember that someone offered 1/4-20 partially threaded studs that were about 4" long so that you could position the cluster on the 5 studs while making electrical & mechanical connections. Does anybody still offer these? I remember struggling to hold the cluster with one hand while making connections with the other.

If no one offers these I guess it wouldn't be too hard to buy 1/4" rod and cut threads in one end.

Or simply buy some 6" long bolts and cut the heads off.

Lowes or Home Depot sell same size long bolts ......just hacksaw off the heads & you have it. Look in "hardware"

You can make them with all-thread in about 10 minutes with nuts and a hacksaw - three work fine; five if you're extra paranoid..

Thanks to all. I feared that threaded rod might damage the chromed pot metal (okay, so sometimes I overthink things...) and I assumed 1/4-20 bolts wouldn't come in lengths longer than about 2". Anyway, simple is best & Ill run to Home Depot.

When you're done put those puppies in a ziplok bag and label 'em......for next time. Ask me how I know!

Harry, are those repo dash pads? And who made them?

JR, they are the original pads.
