    1954 corvette paint touch up

I'm new to this site & have just purchased a '54 Survivor. The car has been judged this past October & with a rating raw score of 4210.

the paint is original & has many flaws in terms of cracked paint in areas & a discolor of a fender that evidently repaired in its early days.

i intend to keep it as original as possible but need to know if I can spot touch up areas that would enhance it's appearance. Can I paint fuel interior door area. Can I repaint below rear bumper? What is allowed?

    Thanks

    Phil

        Hi Phil
Welcome to NCRS. I see by your member # you have been a member since Jan of this year so
I am guessing you car has not been judged at any NCRS event
I would like to make you aware of the Star Bowtie award that may be just what you are looking to do with you car.
This award is for any unrestored corvette. it is a fun way to get involved with NCRS.
Just bring your car as is to a close NCRS Chapter event and ask about bowtie judging.
If you would like to talk to me contact me through this site and I can give you information about the bowtie judging experience.
For now do not do anything to the car that would erase anything ORIGINAL

second reply. I can live with it & enjoy it as is.. I've restored British cars over the last 25 years up to class 1 restorations. It's just hard to see defects & not fix them. I've got the judging sheets & it lacks very few points in order to bring it to top tier level. Some are very easy to fix but I now know to leave the paint alone. Is it permisable to do the easy ones to get it to the next level? Such items as wrong battery hold down or wrong bolts, etc.

Before doing any work on your car, I would suggest you understand the differences between flight judging and Bowtie judging. Once you start making corrections,, your opportunity for Bowtie participation dwindles.

Take a look at the NCRS store and purchase both a judging Technical Information manual for your year and the judging reference manual. This last publication will explain the differences.

If you are interested in trying for Bowtie award, I would also suggest you reach out to the team leader and discuss your car.

              Welcome to the organization.

              Dennis

                Corvette #E54S004092 built June 28, 1954
bought new in New Jersey, then to Oregon, then to John Kobell in Plano, Texas.
i bought the car from John Nov. 2016. Car had been judged twice in Frisco, Texas , 2015 ( raw score 4179)& 2016 (raw score 4210). My intention is to bring it to a raw score that would qualify it from a second flight to a top flight status. I have no intentions of restoring the car for higher levels. Have manuals on order to sow what needs to be done. Just want to be a Survivor at a atop Flight level. I don't think I need many points to satisfy those requirements. Have contacted a member that has a'54 restored to the totally restored level and he lives about a mile from me. Waiting for him to come over & giver some advise
