    67 Position Of Frame Stencil

Some advice please on the positioning of the frame stencil relative to the back of the horizontal frame rail. The judging guide shows a picture but from that I can't tell how far forward from the back it should be and no measurement is given. Following is a picture of how I have interpreted it. Does this look right?

I placed my stencil farther forward... Here are a couple of photos. When I had the frame chemically stripped the stencil numbers were "etched" into the frame. Why? I don't know.... The numbers are about 3/4" high so you can estimate the location. I don't believe there was a "ridged" accurate location, just put the stencil where it could be easily read by the parts handlers.......

This is the original stencil and pull date from one of my 65's. It should be close to the same for a 67.

        James,

Gary Seymour used to have a website with photos of lots of original frame stencils for various years, but I can't find that website anymore. Anyone know the URL?

When I originally posted my pics. a few years ago, Gary had requested that he post them on his web site, which was fine by me. I see that the site no longer exists.

Here's a video of my 67 frame showing the original stencil.

              Jim,

Here's a picture of my 67 original frame (22049) which shows the position of the frame stencil to the front wheel. An upside down photo. Notice the hash marks, not sure what they are.

Guaranteed original, have owned the car since 1968.

hash marks look to be body shim marks

Thanks to all for your input. Lots of variation and the judging guide said that. I think I'll leave it where it is as two out of three examples seemed pretty close.

For some '66 examples, see page 316, "The Complete Corvette Restoration & Technical Guide - Vol. 2", by Noland Adams, Edited by Lowell C. Paddock. (Mine is the revised, updated edition.)

                      Tom, thanks

Yes, I see the picture of the line & I may might be better off moving my stencil up 3-4". Looks like the back of the stencil starts about at the leading edge of the triangular frame reinforcement plate.
Also another example of how the # of shim hash marks are through the stencil, and the assy date written in grease pencil.

Very helpful & thanks again, Jim
