The current project on my 58 is restoring the top frame. My question is about the weather strips. The weather strips on the car now all have a fabric material over the rubber. The top appears to have never been apart and in great condition. It makes me believe that the weather strips are original. Is the fabric correct?

Re: 1958 convertable top weatherstrip
Years ago I learned much about the differences(1956-1958 versus 1959-1962) of these soft top frame weatherstrips from Roy Braatz and Garry Barnes.
Reference posts below:
Note that my '59 top frame is actually a 56-58 version. My car was originally a Hard Top only car but in 1970 the prior owner wanted a soft top and bought one at Carlisle and installed it on the car. When I restored the soft frame and replaced the vinyl top in 1992, I removed the original One-Piece header/front-side weatherstrip assembly as it was badly deteriorated. I saved the front-side w/strips and the other remaining pieces and stored them. Years later I decided to re-use them. That's when Roy set me straight.

Re: 1958 convertable top weatherstrip
I'm helping a passed members wife clean out the garage and did find a set of fabric covered weatherstrips from his restored 58 (now sold). From what I remember, they were in decent shape, but the rubber has hardened with still some give in it. If your interested, send me a email and I'll try and get some pictures.- Top
