Hi All.
Not sure of where exactly to post this, but wanted to introduce myself and my Corvette! While I have been a member of several different forums for about 15 years now, I just became a NCRS member this Christmas and a true Corvette owner this summer.
I wanted to share a bit of information of my 1960 Corvette with you all here and I am sure that I will learn a great deal from these forums...
My Dad bought the '60 back in 1962. He made his purchase at Massey Buick in Pittsburgh PA on a trade of his 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air 'vert. The story goes that the Bel Air started to rust and he needed a new ride...IIRC, he paid $2995 for the Vette less the trade on his Bel Air.
I feel pretty fortunate that my Dad decided to hold onto the Vette for all these years until passing it along to me in June. It was his everyday ride from when purchased until about 1969 when he was getting ready to get married and bought a more sensible Saab! He drove it to work, to night school at Pitt, summer, winter, whatever the weather!
The Vette was driven sporadically throughout the 70's which included an unfortunate accident right before I was born in 1974. When pulling out of parking lot, he was hit on the passenger side as the drive decided to come into the lot on his right! The damage was repaired though. By the 80's the Vette was stored away under a cover in our single car garage and didn't see the light of day until 1992 when we had it pulled out for a mechanical rebuild. Unfortunately, we didn't know then what we do today and there are some things that we would do differently. But, while the engine was rebuilt, the block wasn't decked and the original stamp pad remains intact.
Over the years, the Vette was enjoyed on summer drives in the Pittsburgh area until it was time to make it journey to Richmond, Virginia. So, for the first time in over 40 years, the Vette left the Pittsburgh area! I was overjoyed when it arrived in June and feel so fortunate that I am now the owner of this beautiful 1960 Corvette.
Here's some photos sharing a bit of its history with you all.
Day of delivery to Virginia!
One of the earliest pictures that I have - my Dad is on the left and is '60 is in the background. His buddy Rich is in the picture with him. This is in '62 when they were working on their buddy Don's '57.
Here's the original invoice from Glen Campbell Chevrolet...the original owner moved to Pittsburgh and traded it in on a new Buick.
So glad to be here!
Randy
