Re: 63-4 hood differences ?
Robert,
The '63 hood has unique depressions in the 2 rectangular "scoops" to mount the 2 simulated grilles. BTW, the grilles may also be called.........Muffin Pans, Louvers, Cookie Sheets, Waffle Grills, Ice Cube trays, Screens. On a very hot day with a overheating engine I suppose one could cook cookies or waffles as the names imply, and maybe in arctic like weather in northern winters they would fill with ice.
Also, based on time of build, there may be zero, or two, or four "hood block" mount areas. Plastic wedges were mounted to the hood so there were riveted-in nutplates inside the outer edges of the hood. 1/4"x20 bolts held them in. On the top surround(hood ledge/gutter), there were mating pot metal wedges which when the hood closed, would then mate and keep the hood from "shaking". These went away later in production.
The '64 has those same 2 rectangular "scoops" in the hood, but there is no additional depression to mount the simulated grilles(aka as noted above). No hood wedges were used on '64 hoos either.
One cannot use a '64 hood for a '63 if authenticity is a goal. It could be done with some fancy fiberglassing though.

Re: 63-4 hood differences ?
Early 64 cars would most likely have a 64 outer (top) section and a 63 underside section. The hood block areas are very visible on these cars. Manufacture's were cost efficient and would never just throw away a part, if it could be used again. Bob the next time you see my 64 I'll show you the underside.- Top

I didn't know some early '64's had them. Makes "leftover" sense. I learn something new every day here.- Top
