    67 427 40482 Fuel Pump

I've looked at & read more info regarding date codes etc for the AC Fuel pumps to make my eyes sore. I just removed this from my 427 & noted it has a 239M40482 stamp in the lower flange.

I also have a 263X40482 pump that was judged on a 427 Duntov car with the rest of the case having the identical looks as well as the 2 sets of weep holes in the exact locations as well.

By comparing this to the pic in my JM, the lower inlet should have the square fitting and a straight section of pipe coming off of it VS the curved pipe shown.

    I'd appreciate the feedback !

Secondly, What are members doing when it comes down to finding an "Original" pump ? The originals all wore out & I have not heard of anyone rebuilding these (except Goat Hill, who I believe is out of business) & I've not heard great things anyways. At the end of the day, I wont mess with a 50 yr old pump which could potentially burn my car to the ground.

    I have a Dec 3rd 66 build date car.

Thanks again for the input & advice---FY

    Re: 67 427 40482 Fuel Pump

Looks like a typical late 67-69 40482 configuration to me as far as fittings are concerned, hopefully others will chime in for a larger data base. A far as I know, the block/straight tube inlet was only used from feb 66 to sometime in late 66/early 67.

Regarding the date stamp, as far as I know the 239M decodes to 239th day of 1973 and extrapolating from that the 263X would be 263rd day of 1984. Seems as if AC Delco used various methods for dating but trying to figure out why is beyond my knowledge base, maybe someone else will know.

Can't help you with a rebulider but I bought a repro pump that was very accurate in configuration and performance but of course lacked any date stamp, I pondered buying a stamping kit but decided not to due to concerns with matching the font size style.

Just to add to the data base(and hopefully not the confusion) here is a couple pics of a 40482 pump I have that seems to be from late 65, has the bent tube inlet.

Thanks Doug, I kept wondering how these letters like the M relate to years. I'll look through my Noland Adams book. It make sense that potentially the original 67 pump died in 73 & was replaced by an over the counter GM. I suppose the $69.00 question would be how to proceed with finding a correct pump that would not take any judging hits yet still be functional & most importantly SAFE.

      Thanks for any more input-----

Very early 1967's with the 40482 pump did use the "square block" inlet. Just when this changed to the "bent tube", I do not know. However, yours is an early car so I'd say it's possible yours had the "square block" design. There is no functionality difference between the "square block" and "bent tube" designs.

As far as I know, Goat Hill is not out-of-business. My guess is, for better or worse, they are about the only ones that MIGHT have a "square block" 40482.

For me, though, a currently factory manufactured AC 40482 is the way to go for a safety-related item like a fuel pump.

I definitely tend to agree Joe. I have my 66/425 original square bottom pump. Somehow ,someway the original owner saved everything good or bad. I guess I'm luck in that regard with that.

I'll have to check my judging sheets to see how big a hit I would take for not having a "dated " pump.
