67' body drop and # of shims at ea. body mount

Getting ready to drop the body back on the chassis and looking for suggestions for the # of shims to use at each body mount? When I removed the body 2 yrs ago I was not able to count the # of shims due to rust. Also do you place the shim with the corners bent down?

I am not aware of any hard and fast rule here so I would start out with two. This way you have the option of removing two if needed.

I believe there is an old posting by John Hinckley with his system for shimming the body if the original shim count is not available.

Recently I put a reproduction frame under a 1966 Convertible. I used 2 shims per mount but 3 at the #4 mounts as a start. In the process of adjusting, I added some and removed some from the various mounts. Most adjustment was needed at the #4 mounts behind rear wheels to help align door gaps. Result was solid.

        More info here.

Dave I agree with Russ start with 2 and go from there.

So, this might be an a simplistic question, but the basic idea is to start with a set number of shims at each point and then add where gaps are present until all points have contact? Is there a period of time to let the body set to account for gaps?

i would expect that the process is the same for C1s as it is for C2s.

              Eric,

Having never done it myself, but needing to do my '66, I would not let it sit for months to let it settle, as the one rubber cushion/body mount taking the most weight will compress the most and become stiffer than the other mounts. Just a theory, which is what I'm better at.

                Hi Gary,

I should clarify as often my thought process gets ahead of my typing in my posts.

I meant to say that you would drop the body and add shims where needed to get the voids filled and then let it sit to watch for door gaps before bolting down.

That sounds correct. Also, check the hood gaps and levelness with the surround to assess the mounts at the very front.

                    Hi Dave,
I just removed the body from my 67 coupe. The bent corners on the shims were installed as shown in the aim.
                    Kind Regards
