66 427/425 tie rod hole use fast or slow steering?

I am assembling my front end, want to use the fast steering hole for my tie rods attachment at the wheel. In reading the judging manual it states the proper hole for power steering, but does not mention the 425 hp with no power steering.
Want to use the fast hole, will I lose points,in judging or can it be my choice? How was it delivered from the factory?

    William------

If with manual steering, it was delivered in the standard steering position (i.e. rear hole on the steering arm). I don't know if you'll lose points if you use the fast steering position, but I expect you will.

I do not recommend the fast steering position for street driven, manual steering Corvettes. It will significantly increase steering effort and, on a manual steering Corvette, you don't need that.

I think it depends on where and at what level you're having the car judged at, it shouldn't but I bet it does. I think it wouldn't be to hard to believe that something like that might get overlooked at a local event but may be addressed at the national level. When I had my 68 judged locally I received no deduction for having the tie rods in the quick holes on my manual steering car.

I personally like the quick setting but I have bias ply tires.

I removed the tie rod ends for the 1st time, I believe they were inserted in the fast steering mode from new or the change was when it was new at the delivery dealer.
Was this a delivery option you could chose at new car delivery, or could you check this on the new car order form?

          William-----

You definitely could not order this with a new car order. I'm 100% certain of that.

There was no formal "delivery option" for this change. Could a owner request this sort of change prior to delivery of the car? Of course. The dealer would do just about whatever an owner wanted if they paid for it. For something like this, though, they might have done it without charge.

Good luck arguing this with knowledgeable judges.

Only power steering N40 cars left St.Louis with the outboard tie rod attached to the inner/forward arm hole. A rivet (item 9 #3794056) was installed in the (other) slow steering hole to prevent its use with P.S. [from the 1965 AIM]
