    wheel cylinders

    I picked up a box of brake wheel cylinders at a swap meet a while back supposedly from a closed corvette restoration shop. I think at least part of them are early corvette. any help identifying them would be appreciated. Casting numbers are;
    5463821 5463822 5463820 5464079 5450649

    none of the listed #'s are 56-7 rear wheel cylinders. the 821 and 822 are front 56 all but SR-1's. they were also used on all 57's including the 684 HD sups cars. mike

      821,822 front cylinders for 53 thru at least 59, 820 rear 53-55(need brass block and drilled bolt to connect to brake line). although there is just one number for the 53-55 rear cylinders(820) there is a left and right cylinder. I assumed 649 was the rear cylinder for C1s after 55. if it is not used on 56 and 57, it is used on 58 and later.

        if 649 was not used on the rear of 56-57, what number was?

          Thanks Mike and John; I threw the originals on my 58 away many years ago. Now I have originals to put back on it.

            the 649 cylinders are the rears for 58-62 and maybe on 63-64's. These wheel cylinders seems to be around at swap meets in varying degrees of usability. From what I've read over the years the fronts 527-528's were used in 58 - 60 and I'm not sure when their usage discontinued. I did see a pair of the 8 series restored, but they did not appear to look like anything I've ever seen. Could they be for big brake cars?

              I thought 60's are different than 58-59. I do see in the 58-60 restoration guide that the only front they show is a 528 with a date code of 1239, which may be for a 60. when you buy a front rebuild kit it is for a 53-59 and 60-62HD. 60-62 are 1 3/16". *** past post do show that 527 and 528 are the 1 3/16" 60-62 cylinders.***
