The (tungsten?), contacts on the solenoid in my C2 Borg clock mechanism are very pitted and I am wondering if anyone on the forum has had success in performing a replacement fix on these contacts. The contacts appear to have the copper tang portion swaged over to hold them in place (as opposed to resistance welded), so it seems feasible that replacement is possible. Biggest hurdle is probably sourcing new contacts?

Re: C2 Clock Contacts
You can use some emery cloth or fine sandpaper and file the contacts. I did that a few years ago and the clock is still running.- Top

Re: C2 Clock Contacts
I "filed" the contacts on my 67 clock about 25 years ago. It still runs. I do have a battery disconnect so the clock is not operating nearly all the time. That saves the contacts for a long period of time.- Top

Re: C2 Clock Contacts
I use an old "Point file" to file the contacts. As long as there is enough meat left on the contacts you should have a positive result doing this. The let down on the old borg movement is the reset points... but if you file them smoothly together you should be able to restore the movement function. I would also clean and lube the movement wheel and other pivot points.- Top

Thanks to all the replies. Unfortunately, not enough meat left on the contacts to file.

Re: C2 Clock Contacts
I would make only about one change to the sequence in the video. You can take off the arm that is activated by the solenoid which would make it much easier to attach a new contact. If you have access to a resistance soldering setup, this gets even easier and you can use silver solder.
