    Seat tag

I removed my seats today with intentions to have them restored.
Found this tag inside the passengers backrest.
Anyone care to decipher it for me?
The top line numbers appear to be a date i.e.: 2 10 61.
That would align with the build date of the car, 10 10 61.
Any thoughts on what the rest of it means?

    Really?
Have I finally stumped the NCRS information library?
    Just kidding.
I just thought this was an interesting find.

I have asked around. I guess this is something we cannot figure out. Or, there's no judging of that area anyway. I dunno...

          Re: Seat tag

Those tags are from the manufacturer of the seat frames which were supplied as metal assemblies to St Louis. IIRC they then went to the upholstery department where the foam and vinyl covers were assembled to make completed seats for the car interior assembly operations. I have similar tags on my '59, albeit different dates.

The manufacturer was McInerney Spring and Wire Co. (MSW). I forget what the BP stands for. The dates on the tags, if predated to the build of the car, would likely then mean the spring/frame assemblies could be original to the car. I believe the other numbers are internal MSW part numbers and the GM part# of the assembly for inventory purposes.

Earlier C1 tags were white cloth with ink stamped data. Not sure of the time breakpoint between cloth and cardboard.

Here are some of a unique(NOS?) set of seats a friend found at the Lakeland FL Winter Regional 3 years ago showing more samples of the tags, along with some Shop Order(SO) numbers associated with the Trim Dept work. SO 90=Corvette, 110 the sequence # which was likely internal numbering for their projects.

His original '59 seat frames were so rusted from sitting for 43 years they were not worth salvaging.

Some have the paper tags. These seats were from the prototype department according to the seller. My friend saved all tags in his restoration folder. A local friend and upholstery shop owner redid these for me. He and his son installed the new covers using the exact same details from the originals, after taking numerous photos of the original seats for reference. They put each and every hog ring in the exact order as the original configurations after cleaning and repainting the frame/spring assemblies.

            Rich,

All the '57's I've had, had a cloth tag on the bottom seat springs and a cardboard tag on the seat back springs.

Very cool Richard. Thanks very much for filling me in on the tags. I enjoy finding things like this in the cars and then finding out what they all mean.

Much fun to learn new things. It happens to me often as well, see? Gary just taught me something today too! :-)

Hi Gary, FYI, my 57 has the cloth tags on both the bottoms and the backs. However, one of them is missing - not sure if it was a bottom or a back that was missing, but I have only 3. They look identical to the ones in this thread - except different numbers as they are for 59. (VIN4122 - late May).

                    Dan,

Two photos attached. 1 with 4 tags; 2 cardboard for the uppers and 1 cloth tag for the lower. The other cloth lower tag was just the ring.

2nd photo is one that Roy Braatz had of a '53 seat bottom, which is readable.

                      Hi Gary again,

I have enclosed pictures of my 3 tags. I have no idea why mine are different. All 3 are readable, and all 3 were attached with hog rings.

They are all McInerney Spring and Wire. 2 have 55 dates, on the third the date is unreadable.

So I guess this is a mystery to me.

                        Re: Seat tag

I found one of these tags in my 59 on the passenger side seat back, but what was puzzling was the date was late December for an early November car. I guess the seat back was changed sometime prior to me purchasing it.
