I have been doing research on 1964 trim and VIN tags. I try to capture every tag that appears on any website (including the C2 Registry and Nolan Adam's book). I log them into a spreadsheet and hyperlink the pictures to the entry.
I have noticed some oddities. I have captured nearly 110 VIN's with photos of the trim tags. Some of the tags I've captured are obviously questionable, but others look very original and line up nicely in body sequence numbers and date codes.
According to the Nolan Adams book, trim tags on cars built after 3-25-64 should have the later ECL codes.
I know A.O. Smith cars didn't use complete ECL codes. I have have found St. Louis cars built as late as July 64 with trim tags that look original and have the early ECL codes. This isn't just one occurrence, I have many examples. It appears, based on my research that the early ECL codes are more common than the late ECL codes on cars built after 3-25-64.
After Reading Nolan's book I now know that there are many discrepancies in the 64 build (in break points, parts used and nearly everything else). Does anyone have any specific knowledge concerning these ECL discrepancies?
