Track Bar Bushing Installation Tool - C2 (67)

Looking for track bar bushing installation tool for a 67. Either a design idea or someone that has one for sale or a company who offers the best model to do a near perfect job?

    Any advice?

    Thanks for your help.

If you're referring to the STRUT RODS, a bushing removal/installation tool is available from most of the Corvette parts vendors. Actually, the bushings can be installed without the tool, but the tool makes it convenient and easier.

Jill, Do you mean the bars between the top of the axle and to the bracket on the frame?

      Frame brackets and axle bracket.

Bars shown here above the spring leaves.

If so, I use a hydraulic press to remove th old bushings then install the new pieces with the press. They press in VERY tightly.

This was a question about a C2. However, the C1 rods you picture and describe have the same bushings.

These are the bushings inside the frame that hold the trailing arm near the rear wheel. I've attached a picture of the diagram with the pen pointing to the bushing and the other picture is of the location on the frame where my finger is pointing to the bolt itself and the bushing is inside the frame.

Somehow the pictures posted upside down. :-/

Joe, Yes that was a miss on my part. Jill has been working on a '59 and I obviously didn't even read the whole title.

There are tools available for these bushings, too, and most of the Corvette parts suppliers like Dr. Rebuild carry this tool. There are a few different types. However, these bushings can be a little tricky to install. Your best bet might be having someone install them that already has the tool AND the experience doing this.

ps Unless those bushings are very very worn, you may want to forgo the change as it may turn into much more than anticipated. What exactly is the reason you feel the need to change them?

You're holding your smart phone upside down while taking the pictures. The phone has a sensor to flip images right side up, but the computer file itself is still upside down.

                          Hi Rich.

You can jack the car up and straighten it out. When the car is lifted, you can move the tire with a lot of pressure so you can see that it's starting to wear because it tends to shift back and forth at the bushing. We want to change before it starts wearing out the tires (especially since they're fairly new ~1000 miles on them).

Oh...and I do have a sister but she is already taken. Lol.

Jill, Yes it sounds like it's time. But I agree with Joe, this task is one that is best serviced by the experienced. It may be time for a complete rebuild as well. If the TA's are off that's the time to check all pieces.

If you take it that far apart you might as well do the bearings and maybe the u-joints as well if they need it.
