    1966 Radiator Support

The attached photos are from my 1966. The numbers written on the radiator support have been there since I bought the car in 1969. Are they from the factory?

    Thanks,
    Mike

First that is a radiator Shroud that is pictured. The radiator support is made of metal. That would be a replacement radiator shroud as the 66 small block shrouds were not painted.

        Gene,
IIRC the '65 radiator shrouds were metal and painted a semi-gloss black. The '66-'67 shrouds were a dark gray plastic/fiberglass material and were unpainted.

65 small block shrouds were painted metal, big block shrouds were dark fiberglass.

Thanks, Joe but the shroud (my typo) had those numbers on it from day one. My neighbor--older woman--bought it new in '66 and they were on it then. I did all the service work on it until I bought it in '69 and it has never been in an accident. a real survivor. I am a bit perplexed as to hoe else they would have gotten there!

                Mike,

Maybe I have got into the NCRS (typical) syndrome! Anything really could occur and I guess this would be one of those times. Typical 66 small block radiator/fan shrouds were not painted and I have never seen a painted number BUT anything can and did happen.

I'm out of town right now but check the current NCRS 1966 judging guide, I thought the 66's where painted black and 67's where unpainted.

I guess you never know what could really happen. This car was built in 2/66 but has an original coil with '64 numbers and I know it is original. If I leave the shroud as is I guess I'll reap the whirlwind on NCRS judging! Maybe better to go AACA where they are not so critical. And who knows exactly what happened in St Louis.

The 66 JG I have (copyright 2010 )under "Shroud and seals " , says on the top of page 162 that it is painted Semi Gloss Black.

                      Has that changed ?

Mike its looks like a quality control inspection marking. It looks like the letters are QC ??

Ed; That might be what it means. I thought it was O.C. but it might be QC. It has been on there since day one and had inspection markings on the steering gear. Red and yellow paint. Hate to blast it off it is original! Thanks.

This is a Feb. "66 car. Has never been apart or painted. Shroud is semi-gloss black. Maybe a leftover from '65?
