I do seem to recall that my dash lights did get brighter when I switched from a reproduction switch to an NOS 095 switch.

The DS156 actually replaces both the old GM #1995096 and GM #1995095. However, it could not replace both EXACTLY as there had to be some difference between the two GM switches. I strongly suspect that the DS156 is the same as the 1995096 and "can be used" to replace the 1995095. As I mentioned, GM never replaced the 1995095 with the 1995096 so, for whatever reason, they must have thought the 1995096 was not a suitable replacement. The aftermarket is, apparently, less discerning.
