If memory serves me correctly the original window sticker was always left on the window of a new car. I have bought several new cars over the past ten years and the window sticker is taken off before delivery and given to the customer. Are points added if a Corvette has displayed the original window sticker on the glass as when customer took delivery?

Re: Original window sticker
It might depend on the dealer or area of the country but I have never been given the window sticker until into the 80s. Dealers removed them in prep and discarded them.- Top

Re: Original window sticker
All------
Technically, window stickers (sometimes called a Marony sticker after the case that inspired the law) must remain on a new vehicle until it is sold. I suppose the moment of sale is when the papers are signed. So, I would think that it's legal for them to be removed in new car prep. I don't think the law requires that they be provided to the owner after removal. Of course, one can always request that they be provided or one can request that they not be removed, at all, for subsequent removal by the owner.
In the old days (like when C2 and many C3 Corvettes were delivered), these stickers were affixed to the window with a more-or-less "all-over" mucilage-type adhesive. They could be removed intact but it required a lot of effort. I doubt that many dealers would go to this effort unless one requested it and one was a REALLY good customer (or, one requested it as a CONDITION of sale). In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Original window sticker
Joe you are correct the stickers stayed on unless customer asked otherwise. It was also a little bit of a show off thing, especially if your car was loaded with options. The neighbors could see what you paid. And they were hard to remove intact. They also put dealer stickers on the back unless customer requested otherwise. The the 50s and 60s some dealers drilled holes in you trunk to mount chrome dealer names. I can remember seeing in big letters on some customers orders the words written by the salesperson NO STICKERS.- Top

Re: Original window sticker
I've owned a number of new vehicles from the '60's/'70's (Chevelle SS396, GTO, etc.) and most were delivered with the sticker still in place. The glue was basically all over as has been stated. Some owners left them in place for weeks! I soaked them off and still have them from my '69, '76, and '79 Corvettes. My '84 was an early build and the car was shipped without a sticker. The dealer gave it to me upon delivery so I have an unmounted sticker for it. My later Corvettes and other cars used a different system so the sticker is relatively simple to remove intact. On all my ordered cars I have specified NO dealer names to be affixed. I can't believe some dealers still do it on their Corvettes...- Top

Based on my observation over the years, the dealer identification plates (stick-on or post mount) or decals were kind of a phenomenon of east coast and central states dealers. Dealers on the west coast have primarily used license plate frames for this purpose. I'm sure there are exceptions, but this is what I have generally observed. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Original window sticker
Like Walter's 1984, my 1970 is an early production car that was shipped without a window sticker. For display in the showroom the dealer used Scotch Tape to affix the window sticker to the driver's side window. That sticker still has the tri-fold creases that were put in it when it was mailed to him. There are other differences between early model year window stickers and normal production window stickers, but those are beyond the scope of this discussion.
Terry------
I believe the reason that early model year cars were shipped without the window sticker is that GM did not want the cars sold until a certain date. Since it was illegal to sell a car without the sticker, GM could control when the car could first be sold by simply controlling when the dealer received the window sticker. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Original window sticker
over the years all the new cars I bought had stickers on window and NO dealer emblem, something I detest being put on car. I made it a requirement of sale, including my wifes, gasp, camry.Michael
