    Orphans Forum Posts Monitoring

Probably most members don't pay much attention to the Orphans board. However there are many posts on there of documentation items like POP's, window stickers, dealer invoices, etc. Or you might find your motor or transmission or ??? I suggest you periodically put the last five digits of the vin number of your car(s) in any forum search box. As and example, a few days ago I posted several dealer invoices for some C2's.

    Re: Orphans Forum Posts Monitoring

Gary, et al, I haven't visited there in quite some time, but I just did. I'm wondering if I can add some feedback for the Orphan site protocol.....

I read the guidelines for posting and have a suggestion that may be beneficial to anyone, anywhere, looking for orphaned vin identified items like cars, engines, transmissions and FI units.

    In your guideline you state......

"If you are posting, also put in your post the whole vin or narrative saying it is a Pace Car, ZR-1, etc."

I see that most posts do not include the entire vin#. I suggest every post must include the entire vin#. Here's an example....

There is a 1961 Orphan post there now with a engine block from a '61, 61-10657. If I owned that car, 10867S110657, I'd use the entire vin# in a Web search.
I just tried it myself, 0 results.

    "1961 Corvette 10867S110657 "
    The result was:
Your search - 1961 Corvette 10867S110657 - did not match any documents.

I own a 1959 Corvette and it's engine is a 1961 Corvette engine. I bought the car that way 31 years ago. It's stamp pad is 1102436_FI026CU. Note the leading "1" for year in seq# for 1961. Hypothetically, if I create a post with the format 61-02436, someone searching here internally using OUR Search protocol would find it. A general web search engine(Google, Bing, etc) would find it also, but what if they didn't know OUR search criteria? They would likely use the entire vin#, 10867S102436, and there would be no results.

In fact, I've been looking for the 1961 Corvette that my engine had for many years. Do a Google search using "1961 Corvette 10867S102436". You'll see what I've seen.

I suggest the entire vin# be mandatory in the Orphan Forums where applicable. For the 1963 up years, if for example someone has a engine with a vin derivative, I suggest they include both Coupe AND Convertible vin#'s in their post for more successful results.

      Rich,

I guess when this was set up, it was done so for searches within the NCRS web system. I tried the search with Google as you suggested with the same results you had. You have a good suggestion to help reunite orphaned items NCRS member or not and that is important. I will try to get the full VIN when possible in future posts.

      Thanks for your good suggestion.

Gary, What you've done is a great thing. Maybe adding the entire Vin# can make it a even better chance to get things reunited.

        Thanks,
        Rich
