66 fuel pump #6440366 not avaliable? Replacement?

I am finding that an original fuel pump for my 66 427/425 is not available? Can someone recommend a suitable replacement, that will retain most of the judging points and function properly?

NOS one on Ebay. Search for 40366

      William-------

It depends on whether you plan to drive this car or primarily show it. If I were going to be driving this car anywhere where ethanol-blended fuels prevail, I'd want to use a CURRENTLY MANUFACTURED pump which has elastomeric components designed for such fuels. Even if I was not going to be using ethanol-blended fuels, I'd still be leery of an old NOS pump which might have somewhat deteriorated elastomeric components. I'd be particularly sensitive if I was going to take the car out on a road trip.

So, if I were going to drive the car, I think I'd go with a CURRENTLY MANUFACTURED AC 40482, aka GM #6416741. This is the 1967-69 pump. I don't know a reason why it would not work for your car.

However, if you're primarily going to show the car, then I'd probably go with an NOS 40366.

Keep this in mind, though: fuel pumps are an important SAFETY-RELATED item. Safety trumps originality every time.

William, I agree with Joe. Inasmuch as I like originality, I'd prefer a pump with modern materials and take a slight hit on the configuration.

But I have a friend who knows how to massage the modern pumps to get maximum judging configuration confidence. I'm going to see him tomorrow and could get some details if you'd like.

PS Joe, It's late out there, no? You should get some rest.
