Are the dimensions of reproduction jack storage compartment covers accurate?

Have always ordered from Auto Accessories Corvette America and as long as you specify coupe or convertible you will get one that will fit. Problem is the carpet is not always the correct size.

What is best to do is test fit the cover without the top carpet glued on. As Joe mentioned the surrounding carpet and insulation may cause interference and you may need to trim the cover. Then you can glue the top carpet in place.

I purchased a cover from LIC, the composition of the board seemed correct but the size was not - it was narrow (actually short along its long axis) by almost an inch. It was also the incorrect color - it was a light tan while the original is more of a brown. I prepared a short article on my experience of "restoring" my storage cover - it was published in the MID Atlantic Chapter Signal Seeker - see the attached pdf. The article includes a source for the correct shade of material and an approach to getting labels correct. Hope it helps.

The surface of the repos are much smoother than the originals. Has a totally different look.

Randy, I am not sure what mid-year first had small pieces of carpet inserted in the bottom of the two storage compartments - it was later than '64, could have been 65 or 66. Other members can probably confirm the first year these carpet pieces were used. I suspect the intent was to protect the paint finish on the fiberglass from being marred and to quiet things down that were rolling around in the compartments. Nice touch - wish they did this in '64.

Leif, point well taken. I have never seen storage compartment carpets either - my reference comes from vendor carpet kits - and I will be the first to acknowledge that this is not the most reliable reference.

As I have periodically explored various parts options for my '64 (including carpets) in vendor catalogs I have run across these storage compartment carpets being sold by more than one vendor - and the vendors claim this feature was standard for some years. I can't confirm that but...... FYI, see the attached "installation guide" PDF that is provided by Paragon. If the information is bogus I apologize to all.

Yes, early 65 had the carpet, however do not believe it was to the extent shown by paragon. Know the subject has been discussed before, so it did exist but only for early 65. Could not find that discussion, my have been elsewhere.

The third and last post in this thread provides a reference from an Nolan Adams book that speaks to the existence of factory installation of carpets in the storage compartment for a short period of time during the 1965 model year.

Well I have seen a couple of Corvettes with a small piece of carpet in the bottom of the jack well under the jack. Just thought it was placed there by someone using it as a anti rattle. Could never remember what year they were in.

I don't know about other years, but my '67 late production coupe has the jacking instructions and positraction warning on the drivers side above the jack. No carpet.
