Repainting Different Color Over The Original

What is the opinion of repainting a #'s matching car with another original colour from that year? What do judges deduct for this?

If the color is on a trim tag and the color is different, it's a 100% deduction or 85 points. If it's a 53 that is not white, same deduction.

Being "another original color" is as far from original as painting it a chrysler color.

        Mike,
IMHO, you are going to spend anywhere from $10,000 to $20,000 for a quality color change paint job on your Corvette. If you're thinking long term re-sale value it will probably affect that by about what you paid for the paint job...but to the negative side. Again, you asked for opinions, if this were my car I would sell it before changing the color and find another in the color I wanted. Now, if you've owned this car since new...tough call, but it's YOUR call.

Re: Repainting Different Color Over The Original

Since typical length of time of ownership of these cars seems to be around 2 years or less, how anyone can justify doing a color change on a matching #s mid year is beyond my comprehension. All the colors offered were attractive, some more than others. But the color of these cars is the least important thing to me.
Just one more opinion for your consideration.

I agree Don. This is from a car I was thinking of buying which is #'s matching except for the colour. It's been changed from Daytona Blue to White.

                    Really ? First time I've heard that... I know of one owner friend that 'flipped' a '64 F/I coupe for a quick profit...within 120 days of purchase...but I wouldn't say that's typical...

Is it really a "#'s matching" car? That phrase means many things to different people and, depending upon interpretation, can cover a wide spectrum of monetary values. Even if it is a truly numbers matching example, overall condition also plays an important part. Has the car already been repainted? Its condition may well be so poor that without a body off, nuts and bolts restoration the color the car is painted becomes meaningless, at least with regard to value. Think carefully about your intentions for the car before making a decision on color. Are you looking for a show car or a driver? Are you able to spend the money to make a show car and, if you do, will you be happy with something that you might not want to drive for fear of damage.

I would not change it because if it is a #s matching car you are basically ruined it but if it is a custom car who cares .remember it is only original once.

Same deduction as on cars where the 'numbers do not match' (no matter the interpretation of that awful phrase).

HaHa...I never cared for that either...The other one that gets me is "original miles" I never understood what "un-original miles" are?
