    1965 Corvette Heater Box

The heater box on a 1965 corvette often had spray-on heavy rubbery sealant on the top and sides of the heater box. THis is a "leaker" fix and quite often will run down on the front face of the heater box. My 1965 covette is missing this and it was noted in the judging sheets. Does anyone know wht this rubbery substnace is? What color it is? Where I can obtain it?

Black spray rubberized under coating work good in my application.

Bob, did you have any points deducted? You should not have any deductions for lack of sealant.

Not all C2's had the sealant applied, only those that leaked. I have two 63's and there is no sign of any sealant on either of them.

Neither of my 65's had any sign of sealant.

There is an article in one of the old restorers on making up a good substitute for the original sealant. I would guess roughly five years ago.

It would be an error to deduct for this sealant not present on the heater box. It was only applied if the car leaked in the water down test. Thus only cars that leaked got the sealant applied.

"The gooey, runny black stuff was a water-test repair sealant that was used in repair and intermittently on the main line; it wasn't part of the normal heater blower case installation." John Hinckley
