1966 FIA Corvette Coupe history request
Its been a busy week and i wanted to secure the cars before I asked for help. I purchased a 1963 split window and a 1966 FIA coupe from the estate of a local racer. It was quite a job to get them out of their 26 year slumber especially in the time limit suddenly imposed by the sellers. When we removed the 63 our plan ws to use dollies to slide the 66 over as that side of the home was collapsed. after we removed the mountain of debris we then noticed the 2 steel support poles separating the cars. So the only way out was straight out.
I have not been able to get the vin data off the 66 yet as it was confined in a collapsed garage and covered by debris , it was an exhausting job just to extract it.
The history that was published in the Daytona 24 hour reunion in the 80's states that the car was a big block coupe campaigned out of Florida by Dick Vreeland and rented to other drivers on occasion. Jon Thorne of Grand Sport 002 ownership history purchased this car of Vreeland and according to the program the flairs are supposed to be molded off that GS#002. The spring set that were made for Daytona were found intact marked in the cache of spares. When investigating the Grand Sport at Thorne supposedly this car was under cover and was purchased. Thorne raced it in FIA events as well as SCCA & other early 70's and switched to over to a dry sump small block, which it has now.
Thorne has passed , as has the last owner who race this car in SVRA & Walter Mitty as well as other vintage events in the 80's Vic Shinn.
Any leads would be appreciated. Also posted his 63 Split window that was 1971 Solo 1 Champ Vic owned that car since 1968
