    PS pump resto recommendation

    Guys,

I've lined up someone to do most of the pieces I need restored but haven't found someone to do the PS pump. I looked in both the Driveline and Hemmings and didn't find anyone who fit the bill. Does anyone have a rec for someone for PS pump resto?

Mike, Lonestar Caliper has done a few for me. They can rebuild for a survivor or refinish new. Ken is great to deal with. They advertise in our driveline. Good luck. Merry Christmas ,jeff.

PS pumps are very easy to rebuild yourself if you can get a rebuild kit.

        Russ and Mike------

Yup. Pump rebuild kits are easy to get. Gates #350390 is one of many likely available.

Mike, if your hyd. pump works good but has a few leak,s, As stated above a reseal is very easy. generally speaking the pump rarely fails, unless run dry. It will require a pulley remover and installer if its a pressed type, but older cars have a nut holding the pulley on.

            Edward------

P/S pumps through 1974 used a (slightly) tapered shaft with a special locknut. These pumps do require a special puller for pulley removal, though. No installation tool is necessary. 1975-82 pumps use an interference fit shaft and pulley. A special puller and installation tool is required to remove and install the pulley.

Incidentally, 1963-74 pumps use a pump reservoir with welded-on filler neck. 1975-82 pumps use a "tear drop" shaped reservoir with integral filler.
