    American Pickers 66 Vette

The TV Show "American Pickers" on the Discovery Network is about 2 guys who travel the country looking for items to purchase to sell in their antique shops.
A couple of weeks ago they visited a married couple who had some old stuff that they purchased. The man had an all original 66 427, 450 horse roadster, with side pipes, that he has owned for many years. He started it up for the guys and revved it up a few times. It was loud. His wife told the guys that when they first started dating years ago, she suggested going for a ride and talking. She laughed as she said they could not talk because the pipes were so loud.
The guys asked the owner how much it would take to purchase the car. The owner threw out a price of $100,000. The guys passed on the sale. They couldn't make any money on the deal. I don't think that the owner was really serious about selling. He was having too much fun with the car.

That show is for entertainment only. Absolutely NONE of it is factual.

Yes, American Pickers is real as they visited my home town in Tennessee. The old guys and pickers there hated them. Said they would not pay a fair price for antiques and they were not filmed for the show.

Let me clarify my statement. Yes, the show is real and those two pickers actually exist. What they buy and the values they post are B.S. I stopped watching it long ago when they bought an original tri-power set-up for a 58 Corvette and then paid $100 for a steering wheel from a early 70's Plymouth stating it was a rare wheel for a 67 Corvette and worth well over $500.

That is one of my favorite shows on TV. We saw that particular program with the 66 big block. Looked and sounded nice. Sure beats some of the reality TV shows that are all staged with phony drama.

I remember watching that episode too and the steering wheel was clearly not from a Corvette.

I remember that episode. I am sure there are other items on that show that are misrepresented.
I live a couple of miles away, in Springfield, Mass, from the back yard where they dug up the buried Indian motorcycle 2 seasons ago.The local news media reported quite a bit on that story. That episode was probably true.
My wife and I have a rental property right across the street from the old Indian Motorcycle building that the guys stood in front of. The building is all apartments now.

The steering wheel show was the last one that I watched. In another life I did some picking, and these guys and their producer are simply making a TV show. I find it very frustrating that their prices are no where near reality.

Some of you may remember that we discussed this show several years ago, and someone made a comment about the producer trying unsuccessfully to sell some of these things on e bay.

That's what I had always thought, who buys all that junk they buy. They supposedly gave over 50K for an old bicycle frame. Real or not, I still enjoy watching it.

There was also one episode last week were the guy had a split window in his garage in mint condition, claiming only 2500 were built. It suppose was not for sale. As much as I love split windows we all know more then 2500 were built. You would think a real owner would at least have that much knowledge.

No offense intended, but if you watch any reality show and think you're really seeing real life, you should probably stop smoking that stuff; it would be a good idea if you come to see me about a bridge I have for sale....

I know of one reality show where the subject company's secretary got "promoted" (just for the show) to a high profile principal job, just because she was very pretty (actually that may be reality, after all)

I see Mike and Frank at every Motorcycle swap meet in Davenport Iowa. I have bought stuff from Mile on Ebay and at the swap meet. Mike bought a early square tool box from me off of Ebay for $1400.00. So i know first hand if is what they they want they will pay up.

Is Pawn Stars real. For the most part I think it is, but they probably throw in a few ringers ever now and then when ratings get low.
