Re: 64 exhaust bezel
Paul,
Typically part numbers ending with an "odd" number are for the drivers side (left hand)
Part numbers with an "even" number are for the passenger side (right hand)
The part number you are asking about ends with an "odd" number (5) so it should be a driver side part. You can remember this with the analogy that most people who occupy the driver's seat of a Corvette are a little "odd" ...
However, this numbering convention goes well beyond Corvettes and is very common to all automobiles and aircraft.

Original bezels, like the tips, did not have part numbers that I know of.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

Yes, the odd---left, even---right is the general rule. However, there are exceptions. For example, 1956-82 GM replacement power window motors are an exception. Also, in some cases, while the aforementioned rule applies, the right side part number is 1 lower than the left side part number. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 64 exhaust bezel
Thanks Alan, neither of my original '64s have part numbers either, one a December '63 build the other a June '64 build. The NOS replacements did have an ink stamped number, I think, but not assembly line originals, at least until someone finds one that does........Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

So what if the SERVICE bezels have an ink-stamped part number on them? The number cannot be seen once installed and ink-stamped numbers can be easily removed, anyway. So, what other significant differences are there between PRODUCTION and SERVICE bezels? In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 64 exhaust bezel
True Joe, and of course it is not judged anyway, so all this is only of interest as anal details to us judges I guess. As a chassis judge of C2s, my observations have been that the newer the bezel, the better looking, more even, more perfect and shiny the chrome and finish, originals are rougher looking and not just from age. Also, originals are magnetic, like tips, whereas the newer ones are not, NOS or reproduction. I am not sure when GM stopped making these parts, so it is hard to tell the age of them exactly when they are not magnetic and perfect looking.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top
