Re: Replaced under hood harnesses on 66 L79. Can't figure out pink wires.

However, I'm a bit confused about your upper left photo. It shows the Black/Pink wire but it is already connected to a wire, the one with the Blue tape. Is that wire White or Pink? It looks Pink to me. Was this a "before" photo? If so, keep reading as I think this is your old Pink wire going to the Starter Solenoid R terminal. This is the "after" photo. When I installed the new harness I unplugged and plugged each wire one at a time to try and eliminate my errors. The pink attached to the black/pink was configured in this way.....Maybe this black/pink (and connector) is where the single pink to the starter solenoid should be connected?? Would leave me with the short pink at the harness by the break booster.

Also confused about your bottom left photo. I see 2 Pink wires on Coil +. TI will not have those there. Maybe you removed them and show in the upper right photo. I had them set up incorrectly and they are removed for all the reasons you state here.

The Double Pink wires in your upper right photo..... Both are tied to a single U shaped terminal. On a points ignition the terminal connects to Ignition Coil +. Understood.

One of the 2 Pink wires goes to the Starter Solenoid R terminal. The other goes to the Ballast resistor if Points Ignition, which would not be used for TI.

Cut the U shaped terminal off the double Pink wire pair and discard the terminal. Now you have 2 separate Pink wires. You will have to use a test light or ohm meter to find which is which. The one that goes to the Starter Solenoid R terminal is the one you need. You need to add the blade terminal on that wire. It then connects to the one wire connector(Black/Pink tracer), [is this the black/pink that should connect to the starter solenoid?] which eventually connects to the Distributor connector.
The purpose of this wire is to provide full battery voltage during crank to both the TI Amplifier Module and to the Distributor Pickup coil.

The other(unused) Pink wire can either be completely pulled and removed from the engine harness. The other end of this wire will have a U shaped terminal. If you want to keep it you can tape the ends and secure it somewhere. It is now just a loose wire doing nothing.

What I do not see in your photos is the White wire(from TI module) going to Coil +, or the Black wire(ground from TI module) going to Coil -. New photo attached.

    My appreciation!1966 L72 Electrical 2.jpg

Tom, This is a NEW Engine harness, correct?

However, I'm a bit confused about your upper left photo. It shows the Black/Pink wire but it is already connected to a wire, the one with the Blue tape. Is that wire White or Pink? It looks Pink to me. Was this a "before" photo? If so, keep reading as I think this is your old Pink wire going to the Starter Solenoid R terminal. This is the "after" photo. When I installed the new harness I unplugged and plugged each wire one at a time to try and eliminate my errors. Yes the single Pink going from Solenoid R post should connect to the Black/Pink wire connector.
Also confused about your bottom left photo. I see 2 Pink wires on Coil +. TI will not have those there. Maybe you removed them and show in the upper right photo. I had them set up incorrectly and they are removed for all the reasons you state here.

      OK.

It then connects to the one wire connector(Black/Pink tracer), [is this the black/pink that should connect to the starter solenoid?]

Yes. But I'm confused again as you already show the blade terminal and plastic connector connected to the Black/Pink Solenoid R wire. Did you add the blade terminal and plastic connector to the Pink wire(the one going to the Black/pink wire connector)?

Your new harness would not have that blade terminal there. Where does the other end of that Pink wire go? If it goes to the double Pink wire U terminal, then the other Pink wire of that pair is going down to the Solenoid R post. This method would be electrically functional, but dangerous. That bare U terminal will have 12V during CRANK or RUN and could short out to ground eventually. Even if you insulated and isolated it, I wouldn't trust it.

Again, you can cut the U terminal off and add the blade terminal to connect to the Black/Pink wire connector, and pull the short remaining Pink wire(terminating near the brake booster) from the harness.

which eventually connects to the Distributor connector.

OK. But you may want to consider a new TI Harness as well. It appears quite worn.

      My appreciation!

New TI harness installed, cranks but still no spark. Coil is providing 3.3/10.5. Amplifier?? I see amplifier refurbish posts but I'm still searching for a way to test it if anyone has any thoughts. Tks. T.

          Tom,

It may be now a idea for us to talk on the phone. Send me your # in a PM or Email and I'll give a call. (edit... I just sent you a email)

I'm thinking it will be wise for you to start a new thread as this could get quite involved and it's not only about Pink wires anymore, questioned by someone else in this thread.

We can update a new thread for others to see later. TI is a subject that many need help with.
