Do early 1968 s use a hydraulic steering stabilizer like the C 2 cars did? My 68 (15742) was built April 9 th of 68 and doesn't have one. Page H 217 of the A.I.M. Shows the stabilizer and attaching parts but it's stamped CANCELLED as of 4/20/68. Does this mean cars produced prior to 4/20/68 had the stabilizer? Or were they ever used? I've had people tell me they were used but I'd like to hear from owners etc. Thanks in advance. Rich

Re: 1968 Front Steering Stabilizer
My early '68 roadster, 6923 build date 12/15/67 has a stabilizer that appears to be original.
Hope this helps.- Top

Re: 1968 Front Steering Stabilizer
My Jan 15 build manual steering roadster has no stabilizer, has what I believe to be all mounting holes but shows no evidence of one ever being mounted.- Top

Re: 1968 Front Steering Stabilizer
Richard
I think your going to have take into account if the car is a SB or BB. Mid year big blocks didn't get a stabilizer, while most if not all small blocks did. The reasoning I have heard is GM was concerned with oil pan clearance. I have to think this carried over into 68 as the mechanicals involved were essentially unchanged.
My late April built BB does not have a stabilizer.
If the clearance issue is the reason why GM left the off big blocks, they were overly cautious, as a stabilizer will fit just fine on a BB. I've seen quite a few 68 big bock with them, but had always thought they were added later

Re: 1968 Front Steering Stabilizer
Thanks John, as a matter of fact my car is a big block. I bought a stabilizer with GM brackets and plan to install it but I see no evidence one was ever in place. I'd still like to know for sure in case I have it judged. Thanks Rich- Top
