    1967 AC expansion valve replacement

I am rebuilding a 1967 A/C evaporator box. The unit has the original POA valve, but the
expansion valve is not original. I doubt any of the original 67 expansion valves from Frig are available or affordable. I see Ecklers and others are offering a replacement expansion valve they list for 63 to 72. My question is, since the 67 has a POA valve vs a STV valve do the advertised 63-72 valves work well with the POA valve on the 67 unit?
    Thank You'

    Tim:

Yes they should work with either STV or POA.

I would contact PacecarJeff on Ebay (he is also an NCRS member I believe) and inquire about a used original TXV valve. He may have one.

Classic Auto Air and Old Air Products should also have ones for sale, and they may be what Ecklers is selling. I dunno. HOWEVER, REGARDLESS OF WHAT NEW TXV YOU BUY, test it out before installation.........as many folks have found their new TXV to be dead on arrival. I have a test procedure that came from the AutoZone Website Technical Information that I can send you, or send you a link, if you need it. It requires a few fittings to hook everything up as well as a air source and a good manifold gage assembly. Hopefully you have all of these anyway.

        Tim,

Regarding finding an original '67 Frigidaire Expansion Valve (GM#5910613), try contacting David Sokolowski (310) 329-5334. He has a vast inventory of hard to find original GM parts. He advertises within the DriveLine. I recently purchased one and sent it to Classic Auto Air in Tampa, Florida (888)791-6384 to have it operationally checked and replated. I have not yet installed it, but I'm happy so far.
