    63 T-10 Questions

Have a '63, April build, roadster with an original 4 speed T-10. It had an oil leak between the tail shaft housing and the bearing support so I removed and disassembled the transmission for reseal and rebuild. Have a few questions maybe someone can help me with.
-transmission was previously assembled with silicone smeared over both sides of all the housing gaskets, "o" rings and shaft and pin bores in the housing, Is this necessary ?
    - Difficult to shift into 2nd gear after cold start for 5 minutes or so (or until transmission warmed up a bit) I have closely inspected 2nd gear, 2nd gear syncro, and slider and can see no wear, chips or defects. Shift fork doesn't show excessive wear and looks the same as the 3-4 fork. Any suggestions?
-who is the best supplier of a rebuild and seal kit. May also need a front (input shaft) bearing retainer nut and if nothing else I may change the 1-2 shifter fork.
    thanks Joe

    Re: 63 T-10 Questions

Joe, as far as the leaks go take a straight edge and check for flat surfaces, and if not take some light sand paper and a flat block and clean up, since the gaskets are thin cleaning surfaces are very important and. if you run into deep scratches a very thin coat of RTV sealer is ok. going into 2nd gear sounds like a slider or blocking rings, check for crisp edges on the v shaped ends of snycro.'s and blocking rings.

      Re: 63 T-10 Questions

      Joseph,

If it were my T-10 I would call Larry at D&L transmissions in NY, Larry is a very nice person and you will get good advice about your problems. He will tell you what to check because it's too much work to get it wrong. He will also have any parts you may need, when I did mine I bought new gears and a new torque lock slider for the first/second and a new regular slider for third/forth along with new service parts.

IMO, Larry is your man to go to for transmission issues.
