1967 Early Late Forward Harness Fusible Link Configurations

Does anyone know if/when there was a changeover in the 1967 model year from a plug-in removable fusible link to the hardwired tubular junction type? I would surmise that if there was a change it was likely due to cost savings to reduce parts count.

Were all 1967 harnesses the same, or were there time built based variations in the fusible links shown below?

This is a forward harness for a Nov '66 build, from vin 41xx. Plug in type.

This is a later type, albeit a reproduction. Notice the black tube junction type fusible link. Today I viewed a NOS GM service replacement forward harness and it had identical bullet type fusible link at the horn buss bar location.

I have two 67's. A very early 004xx and later 17,3xx and both are hardwired original harness.

Gene, Thanks for checking in....Interesting that your early car doesn't have the plug-in type.

This is the first time I've researched this detail relative to potential build dates. Of the many 1967's I've encountered I never paid much attention to this particular fusible link. I have seen both types, hardwired junction "tubular" type and the plug-in type. I'm trying to understand when changes to the link occurred or if it was merely a running variation from the supplier, which I think would have been the Packard Electric Division.

A few more examples would help. I was at the Frisco Regional in October and I could have taken a better sample as there were many to look at. I missed my chance. Hopefully some other owners of originals may add info also. From now on every one I look at will have me curious.

The 1967 JG shows the plug-in type pictured in the Chassis Section. The photo is referencing the BB core support but shows the link. I'm unsure what the car build date is.

Another interesting tidbit, however not always a accurate representation of the physical attributes of the electrical system, is the AIM. Page UPC 12 D1 clearly shows a "Plug" in the wiring diagram at this location as shown below. The page Release date was 5-2-(66). Redrawn 1-19-67 but not clear what the revision was.

One other note for those that ever encounter a failed link. Since it powers the entire car and if the plug-in type, carrying a spare is a good idea. However, I have not seen them ever available in reproduction.
