Re: 1967 Fuse Panel Housing and Bulkhead Connector Block Replacement

I am pleased to report that after judging here yesterday at the Winter Regional in Lakeland, that there were zero deducts on the entire electrical system on this car.

    Operations: 0 deducts

Interior: Total 3 point deduct (Carpeting- Reproduction loop pattern NTFP)

Mechanical: Total 1 point deduct (Engine- Missing engine orange paint overspray behind throttle rod spring return bracket)

There were no associated electrical wiring or harness deducts in any way. All Electrical TFP We are extremely pleased.

Tremendous preparation, as always, Rich. You mentioned a grand total of 4 points deducted for Ops, Interior and Mechanical. Gotta know...how did Exterior and Chassis do, point wise?? I know you Top Flighted.

Leif, I can tell you the total points loss was 13. This was achieved on Friday the 13th. If I were a numerologist, I'd say it was in the stars that this was the result. If you do the math, the number was 99.711..........

ps I forget all of the other details, but the paint deduct was 0.

            Rich.
I have a 66 and am trying to remove the bulkhead connectors. The guy before me who restored it did a terrible job and never put the cover on it. I can not remove the left one at all. I don't want to pry it off but am out of ideas. Any suggestions. would greatly be appreciated.

Tom, I'm not sure I understand. Which "cover"? Do you mean the harness tape covering?

Do you mean removing the engine harness left plastic housing connector from the fuse panel mating connector housing at the firewall? Sometimes the lock tabs are trouble. If the Twinlock pins are badly corroded, some may be seized. I suppose another possibility is that something melted and fused the harness plastic housing to the mating fuse panel housing.

A photo may help if you can get one posted.

I was as gentle as I could be taking off my firewall bulkhead connectors on the 63....one of the locking tabs still broke off on the inboard one. 50 year old plastic just doesn't have much give. Once a tab is broken there is just no good way to secure the connections sufficiently. I had to repin the connectors into a new housing.....not the best way to spend a Saturday.

If you suspect problems in there though you don't have much choice but to proceed.

I just found a file photo of a '67 which has a engine/forward harness acquired from M&H about 4 years ago. Notice the length of the black ground wire reaching over the VR to the ground screw.

I think this answers the PM I sent you.

                    Rich,

Do you happen to know the size screws that attach the fuse block to the firewall? My car didn't have any screws holding it in and the new fuse block didn't come with any screws.

                    Thanks
                    Jerry

Jerry sorry nothing here I can check. IIRC maybe #8. Test some screws you have in the nutplate on the firewall. I think they're sheet metal but may be thinking of C1s.

While I was at it I replaced the fuse panel housing due to some cracked edges and poor silkscreen. I replaced it with a nice original "P.E. DIV" panel and block housing.

After removing the 16 Twinlock terminals from both housings(32 total), and removing and cleaning the fuse clips and terminals, I replaced all wiring into the new panel. I will test all circuits before install

I developed a quick fix for the fuse block broken pin. It is a simple plastic square adapter that fits over the fuse block. listed in the NCRS parts for sale forum
