    Door ajar switch rubber pad?

At Frisco it was pointed out to me that my 1970 did not have the door-ajar rubber pads installed. I'm not sure my car ever had them? My door-ajar switches operate correctly without the pads.
The new TIMJG pg. 31 says. "Glued to the lower rear of the door on some 1970 to 1972 Corvettes is a small gray rubber pad...................It contacts the door-ajar switch if door alignment requires a spacer to operate the switch".

So how much is some, 10%, 50% or 90% of the cars built? Do most cars have them or not?

    Mike,
If you believe your car never had them and the switch shuts off the interior lights, I wouldn't put them on based on the observation of one judge. You just quoted the TIM&JG for your car..."some" definitely doesn't mean "all". Leave yours like it is.

You can usually tell, as it will have a round "ding" from the switch hitting the paint. If no ding, or a square residue from the old pad, then it had a pad. It all depended on whether or not the switch would shut off without the pad, or it needed it in order to work.

That photo you show just looks so familiar to me. Would you believe I once got dinged for HAVING the pad shown in the photo? That same exact pad, too.

The pad pictured on the door is an original. The pair pictured are incorrect replacements.

          Patrick,

Would you believe that judge was a "ding-a-ling"?????

I always wondered if those pads had something to do with the cars that the factory alarms, its seems strange some do and some don't as the door switch's had a lot of adjustment. by 72 I think the alarm was standard. maybe a lot of problems with alarms going of in the middle of the night due to wear on the fiberglass from the pins??? my 72 has them. does anyone else with a 72 have them?

You raise a very good point. I wonder if there is any correlation of cars with original pads installed, also having an alarm system installed?

There shouldn't be, the switch also served to activate the 'door ajar' warning that all cars had.

Edward, my 72 LT-1 made in June 72 has them and they are the original ones from the factory.
