Re: 69 copo l88
According to what I read this is the only L88 car without the J56 brakes, but that's not what is making this a COPO according to the tank sticker. Someone on another forum is saying this car was ordered with two magnetized drain/fill plugs as standard M22's in 1969 used only one magnetized plug and the other plug was unmagnitized. M20 and M21 only has a single plug. Either way this COPO refers to the trans. Interesting.- Top

Why anyone would go through the COPO process to have one of the plugs on a transmission non-standard is absolutely baffling. Why any dealer would have submitted such a request baffles me, too. The plug could easily have been changed at the dealership or by the customer.
By the way, ordering an L-88 without J-56 brakes would have required a COPO.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

i agree that all this is pretty odd but I am only guessing that this was probably just a matter of procedure regardless of how small the special request would be. I agree and would think the brakes would require the COPO as that makes more sense but for whatever reason that is not shown on the Tank sticker with any special notation. I really don't know, I'm just repeating what I heard on this one. The only COPO Vettes from 69 I'm aware of and somewhat familiar with are the non-recommended color combos and all have similar tank sticker notations.
A curiosity indeed, and it is noteworthy for future cars that come up with something like this but with this particular car its really not the selling point that makes this car so incredible. Just that its an L88 with race history is all this baby needs. Great car.- Top
