    1973 Corvette Body Mount Replacement

My wife and I are the second owners of a 1973 Corvette. The engine and transmission have been rebuilt but are the original. The body mounts need to be replaced. These may be stupid questions but I have not worked on Corvette body mounts.
My question is; is there a book or drawing available that will illustrate the body mount locations?
Second question is; do I need to remove the body completely or just separate the frame from the body? T

I would say that the all the rubber mounts should be replaced at the same time, changing just a few may upset the body lines. this generally requires at least lifting the body up a few inch's (4to 6 inch's). the mount in front of rear wheels is where you may need the extra space. You should be able to see the locations on the web, just google it. you may even find a you tube video. be sure to used a good rust penetrant to aid removal of bolts a few times over a couple of days.

Kim, IMO.......Changing just the body mounts is similar, on a considerably smaller scale, to raising a house just to change the wooden sill plates on top of it's stone foundation. It is a substantial amount of work to just change body mounts. If those need changing, much more is likely aged and needs attention also. Who told you the body mounts need to be replaced, and why?

BTW, a convertible has rust prone areas at the #4 body mounts, those behind the rear wheels. Yours a Coupe?

It's not a simple task, especially if the mount bolts are rusted to their mating frame "captive" nut fasteners. For a sample of a few midyear lift-offs and what it takes to lift the body from a rusty chassis, even a few inches.....See This and This.

There you will see the body mount positions, which are very similar to a C3 chassis. Your 1973 AIM will have specific details on body mount locations.

Rich, sound advice, I just did a 64 body off and had to weld in some plates on the frame mounts #4 also. If the rust issues are really bad on inspection I would remove body completely for possible repairs and broken or possible sawing or grinding of bolt heads.

          Hi Kim,
You've received good advice from everyone who posted here. I just thought I would post the 73 body mount locations from the 73 AIM as you requested.
          Good luck with your project!

            Kim,

If you are looking for a body mount kit you can find one at Bair's 1 800 421-9644 part number BM105. Yogi says they are PERFECT in every detail.

Re: 1973 Corvette Body Mount Replacement

Thank you to every one that replied to my questions. I will check out the AIM drawing and begin the process. I will begin the removal process with spraying the 1973 coupes mounts and doing that for several days. If frame rust is an issue I will address that too.

              Thanks again.
