    New member and C2 owner

    Hello all,
my name is Bruce and I am new to the Corvette world. I recently acquired a 63 C2. I must admit, this car has impressed the heck outta me. It runs great, drives even better and grabs all kinds of attention. I might even put it up there with my 57 2dr post. Anyway, I would like to get this car looked at by a professional. Supposedly this car is a survivor, Numbers matching, Original paint and interior. Only 67k miles one her. Tires are radials and needs to be changed to Bias ply.
    Here are a couple pics.

Bruce, welcome to the NCRS - you're going to love it -expert technical advice and great people, doesn't get better than that. You SWC is great - beautiful. From the looks of your garage it appears that you don't mind getting your hands dirty. If you plan to work on your '63 I suggest that you get the following: a GM shop manual; the '63 AIM and the NCRS judging guide - all available from the NCRS store. It is impossible to repair or correct anything without these three references. I also recommend joining an NCRS regional chapter - these are the guys that you will interact with face to face most of the time. Again - welcome to the organization.

I just noticed, I don't see an antenna on the rear fender and from the one interior pic it looks like your car does not have a radio - is this a radio delete car?

Ed, I'm not sure I see a radio in the interior shot. Also, no shielding on the engine, typical of a non-radio car.

Harry, I believe you are correct - the absence of a radio explains the absence of the ignition shielding. I am surprised that this might be a radio delete car. I was under the assumption that the radio deletes were mostly (or all) limited to the high performance cars. Was radio delete common?

Having a radio was an add-on option. The term radio delete is really a misnomer, as all cars came without a radio.

Beautiful car, I love Ermine White. And the radials are just what you need to drive it, much better than any bias ply tire. Of course, for judging you may want to put bias ply tires on, but that can be very temporary. Good luck!

                  Bruce,
Very nice SWC. You will learn a lot about your car on this board.

Like Harry said the base configuration did not include a radio, but you could order an optional radio without restriction. That means it could be ordered with any other option, even all the HD options.

Since a heater was standard equipment on the base configuration beginning in 1962, Chevrolet offered a "heater delete" option with a credit of about $100. It's most common to find no radio or heater on fully HD optioned cars that were intended for serious racing.

"Heater delete" was a mandatory option on the '67 L-88 to discourage street use, and the '67 L-88 had no emission equipment including a PCV system, so it was illegal to register for road use. Beginning a Jan. 1, 1968 a new FMVSS required all cars to have defrosters, so the heater delete option was eliminated and L-88s also had PCV and AIR systems to meet emission standards, but it was still not a very good engine for normal road use.

In 1976 a radio became part of the base configuration, and at that point GM did offer a "radio delete" option, but with no credit. Prior to that model year a Corvette without a radio is simply a "no radio option car."
