    Interior Insulation

I am getting ready to take the seats out of my 1970 LT-1. I would like to add some insulation under the carpet to reduce the heat in the interior. Additionally, I want to get the car judged down the road and do not want to add something that would detract from the originally.

What insulation should I use under the carpet?

Lowe's has insulation that is thin, aluminum on both sides. I've used it on a 66 BB with Old Air and the console remained cold in the hot summer months. It glues great as having aluminum foil on both sides, cheap and easy to install.

I've also used something from Lowe's, it's 1/4" thick tar with aluminum on one side. It's in the roofing area. It looks like a gallon can sitting on the shelf but it works great. Cuts road noise & heat way down! I don't notice any smell. Rolls out easy, not messy at all. And the cost about $15.00 a roll. Takes less than 2 rolls to do the whole floor. After the carpets down...no one can tell!

I believe there was a comparison done in a NCRS Restorer magazine a while back. Don't remember the issue or conclusion. Maybe someone with a better memory can come up with the issue it was in or the article. It was well researched.

          Hi Greg!

To add to your post, I think the author was Gary Chesnut.
