Old newspaper sales ad in New Jersey

Found this ad on Facebook. My brother bought a brand new Corvette in 66 for $3900 at M/K.
Brings back a lot of good memories. Larry

Larry, my corvette was shipped to Malcolm - Konner Chevrolet on April 22,1966. For being such a big corvette dealership I wonder why they do not have any records that many of us could use. Does anyone know the Konner family to approach them about storage of their records ?

Malcolm Konner was a friend of my Dad. Dad was Postmaster in Paramus from 1949 to 1978. AT that time Paramus was a small town, no malls, celery farms and 2000 residents. So all the business owners knew each other.

Anyway, Malcolm passed away on the Orient Express, he had a heart attack. The dealership passed to his sons. I knew them. They ran the business into the ground as I understand. The dealership was sold to GM and today it is a Chevy Store and the Konner's have nothing to do with it, not for a long time. As I recall all the old records were destroyed.

All I can suggest is to call the dealership or look for the two Corvette Sales guys. I think one is still on the proper side of the grass. They were Pete Zichello and Bob Wasserman.

Back then there were 2 area codes - 201 for north Jersey & 908 for south Jersey. So, all you needed to know was the rough geographical location and you automatically knew the area code, and Paramus is definitely N. Jersey.

Area code assignments started in 1947. The entire state of NJ was 201. Anyone guess when 908 was added? Google must know.

Years ago a employee from GM told me that Konner Chevrolet had a warehouse in Goshen, N.Y. Does anyone know something about this. Maybe some records from the dealership are kept in that warehouse.

My '69 was sold there in Dec of '68. The ad came out of a Corvette News.

Re: Old newspaper sales ad in New Jersey

Back around 1958 I worked at a food market jn Millburn NJ delivering orders to homes in that area = once in awhile I would deliver an order to Malcolm Konner's home in Short Hills NJ and saw his very young sons driving their battery operated small corvettes. In those days Konners ran
ads claiming to be the largest volume dealer of Corvettes in the country. Flash forward to 1982 when I bought my first Corvette (used 1977 L-42) Malcolm Konner ran a large show every year at his Rt.17 location - which was a 2 story high showplace. Corvettes only were displayed on the second levei ( he always had older Corvettes displayed for sale.) At his shows he always had Zora (and in most cases his wife) there all day signing whatever you wanted him to sign. I remember standing in that line for quite some time inching toward the main man. I can not remember the year he sold a special model Malcolm Konner Corvette (50 were made and sold). He made the papers by having all the new owners go with him to the plant take delivery and drive them back to his location in Paramus for a party. I moved to So. Jersey after that but I do remember after Malcolm passed away somehow his sons opened up a new Konners Chev. on Bloomfield Ave. in West Caldwell NJ.

Edward, nice story. Attached are two more photos, one of a Zora hat from a Konner event, and the other of another Konner Corvette from this summer's National, sold by the other Corvette salesman Bob Wasserman,
