Recently, I attempted to start my '65's engine that hasn't been run for a few years. First I primed the engine using a priming tool and power drill, and the oil pressure gauge got up to 30-35 psi. The engine started with the help of some starter fluid, but ran very rough and I didn't keep it running for more than a few seconds. The last time I tried, the oil gauge did not register any pressure. When I attempted to prime again, I noted that the oil pump extension shaft seemed very loose but appeared to be engaging the pump OK, but no pressure. Decided to pull the pump to check it out visually and when I drained the oil pan prior to removing it, there was a considerable amount of gasoline in the oil! The oil was pretty fresh, as I'd changed it a few months prior to all this. I've never experienced this before, so I turn to all you sages out there on the TDB for any thoughts, ideas, suggestions.

Re: '65 Oil Pump Issue
Joel,
Probably the float needle seat is stuck down. This allows the carb to dump a lot of gas into the intake, past the rings and into the crankcase. Just clean or rebuild your carb. Oh, and change the oil again.

PS, If there is a lot of gas in the oil you might have diluted the oil and have no oil pressure.- Top
