    Re: 427/425 Engine Problem

    Joe,
I was not connecting wire to module. I was connecting to resistor wire going to module. Just bypassing ignition wire as possible problem. I tried this and nothing changed. Drove for my 4 mile trip came home and it shut off. This weekend I am going to put points distributor in car to affirm that it is TI system. I had this in before switching to correct TI ignition. If this solves the issue than I will put TI back in and start buying and replacing parts.

      Re: 427/425 Engine Problem

I wanted to follow up with conclusion to my 2 1/2 year problem. I have not been able to drive my car for that long due to issue that is documented in this long series of posts and threads. I tried everything possible ruling out every imaginable problem source over this time. I have read every suggestion and acted on every angle within my abilities. Bottom line is I could drive the car out for 4-5 miles with each test drive to see if my most recent experiment worked. The car always got me home and always shut down only to start up and sound like the best running car you ever heard until you drove it for a few miles. I was very diligent in eliminating possible sources and crossed off one by one. The first thing I did was call Dave at TI Specialities who rebuilt my original distributor and supplies all parts to convert to TI from a point distributor that was put in cat in early 70's. He had no interest in helping me and only wanted to get off of the phone declaring all parts were right and would not be the source of the problem. I had determined it was in TI ignition as I replaced with points ignition that I had replaced and car ran great. I had Zip products in Richmond do some work on my rear in 2018 and found from their VP and service department manager that he would take the car and try to diagnose the issue ( I knew it was either distributor or TI harness as only thing I had not ruled out). He gave me an appointment date and I trailered the car to his facility in Richmond, Va. After spending much time in checking all variables he rebuilt the distributor replacing most of parts with success. I picked car up driving the 1 1/2 hours to my house and several other short trips since. Car runs great and I am thrilled. I have seen many posts regarding this type of problem and have submitted this long thread in hopes of helping others. Thanks to all that tried to help over this period. If I would have acted on Doug McClure's thread on the day of my first post 11/14/16, I would have saved myself a lot of aggravation. He posted that day that it sounded like a defective coil pick up. DF at TI Specialties said distributor checked out fine and would not cause issue I was having. You learn a lot when dealing with adversity but this was a lesson I would have preferred to pass on. Thanks Justin at Zip Products.
